Blue Star Mothers of America has an amazing history. When the Flint News Advertiser printed a coupon asking Mothers of serviceman to complete and return information regarding their loved ones serving in our US Military, this small gesture led to over 300 mothers gathering at a hotel in Flint Michigan on February 1, 1942. Captain George H. Maines acted as the chair for this first meeting of the official Blue Star Mothers of America organization.

Mothers volunteered their time through the tough times of World War II – packing care packages and assisting in hospitals. Over the years, the organization diminished in size but after being attacked on our own soil again, proud Military Moms started hanging flags in their windows at home proclaiming pride in their servicemen sons and daughters protecting our nation’s freedom.

Blue Star Mothers provides support for active-duty service personnel, promotes patriotism, assists Veterans organizations, and is available to assist in homeland volunteer efforts in maintaining the strength of our great nation.

This community of Blue Star Mothers understands the unique pride, devotion, and worry that comes with having a child serve in the U.S. Armed Forces. Whether that child is active duty, in the Guard, Reserves, or a Veteran, Blue Star Mothers is part of a sisterhood that offers unconditional support during the military journey.
